Geisha Glamour Sketch Night

Wonderful sketch night at the Society of Illustrators where the theme this time is Geisha Glamour! David Leung, Design Director of Natori provided kimono’s, obi’s, and accessories to the models and Bil Donovan facilitated the event. I wish I can capture the beautiful details of the fabric used but I was sitting way too far from the stage and had only 5-7 minutes to draw the models. Other than that, I had fun sketching!

word of the day: Obi (different from Obi-Wan Kenobi!)
[oh-bee; Japanese aw-bee]
noun, plural obis, obi.
1. a long, broad sash tied about the waist over a Japanese kimono.

Origin of obi
1875-1880; < Japanese: girdle, gird (v.)
