Advent

2013 has flown by so quickly – we’re already in the first week of December,

the first week of Advent!

This year, I am making a conscious effort to observe Advent, first day of December (unlike previous years where I started somewhere in the middle of December!)
What is Advent/advent:

2. (usually initial capital letter) the coming of Christ into the world.
3. (initial capital lette ) the period beginning four Sundays before Christmas, observed in commemoration of the coming of Christ into the world.
4. (usually initial capital letter) Second Coming.

Origin:
1125–75; Middle English < Latin adventus arrival, approach, equivalentto ad- ad- + ven– (stem of venīre to come) + –tus suffix of verbalaction

Synonyms
1. onset, beginning, commencement, start.

Many individuals and families like to begin their Christmas decorations right after Thanksgiving. I am planning to do that and observe Advent!
